Penelope Rowlatt

 

is the author of

MIND: a property of matter

 

Penelope studied theoretical physics at Oxford University followed by a PhD in fundamental particle physics at Imperial College, London; she then became a lecturer in Physics at Westfield College, London University.  She published a paper in a peer-reviewed journal and a book titled "Group Theory and Fudamental Particles" (see physics page).

She retrained as an economist (MSc with distinction from the London School of Economics) after raising a family of four children and worked for some years in HM Treasury and the (then) Department of Energy before becoming a consultant and director, first of National Economic Research Associates and subsequently of Europe Economics.  During this period she was, at various times, a member of the Royal Commission for Environmental Pollution, of the Better Regulation Commission and of the Retail Prices Index Advisory Committee; she was also a lay member of the Restrictive Practices Court and Treasurer of the Royal Economic Society.  She published three papers in peer-reviewed journals and wrote a book titled "Inflation" (see economics page).

On retiring from economics she enroled to study philosophy of mind at University College London.  She has since published another paper in a peer-reviewed journal, and was awarded a PhD in July 2017.  She has now published the book "MIND: a property of matter", describing her findings (see philosophy page).
